“This program explores the chemistry of living organisms and the molecular basis for change occurring in living cells, providing the basis for practical advances in areas as diverse as medicine, agriculture, veterinary medicine, and forensics. The Biochemistry Specialization program is a structured program, but it allows for some flexibility with course selection. You can access unique opportunities like our research abroad course and our Certificate in Biomedical Research to further develop your research skills and gain experience that will take your education in new directions.”
“If you are passionate about the life sciences and have diverse interests, the Biological Sciences major (or minor) is an excellent choice for you. Whether your interest lies in animal, plant, or human life, this degree is designed to provide a broad view of life sciences and allows for customization and flexibility with courses and program direction. The Bachelor of Science with Major is a highly customizable degree program with a wide breadth of topics to study. The degree includes an optional minor or double major. This flexibility allows students to design their degree around two areas of interest, or choose to focus on only one area. Students have the option to keep their program broad or delve deeper into a discipline of their choice. “This major — unique to the Alberta School of Business — incorporates courses on both Economics and Law, examining the economic and legal aspects of business and how they combine to create the environment in which firms operate. You’ll gain an understanding of the economic and legal aspects of business decisions, and of how the law affects businesses and institutions. This program prepares graduates for management, planning, and policy-making roles in organizations of all sizes in the private and public sectors. It is also appropriate for students considering the pursuit of advanced degrees in law, management, and public administration.”
“Business Technology Management (BTM) is about applying information technology to manage and analyze operations and solve business problems. Knowledge on information technology is essential to modern management, and majoring in BTM will provide the capability to manage information systems or to assist senior management in its information technology strategy. With a major in Business Technology Management (BTM), you will learn about business processes and analyze how to improve processes using IT. In taking this major you should also develop expertise in at least one other area of business, such as Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, or Operations Management. You'll also have the option to take electives offered by other faculties such as Science and Arts, preparing you for employment in virtually any field.”

“This interdisciplinary program, offered jointly by the Faculty of Science and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute, covers all aspects of brain function, including brain development, nerve cells and synapses, sensation and perception, learning and memory, control of movement, animal behavior, cognitive psychology, and disorders of the nervous system.”

Postgraduate Programs
“The department of Agricultural, Food, and Nutritional Science offers thesis programs leading to Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, as well as course-based programs leading to Master of Agriculture and Master of Science degrees. The department has active research programs in the following areas of specialization: Animal Science, Plant Science, Food Science and Technology, Nutrition and Metabolism, Bio-resource and Food Engineering, Rangeland and Wildfire Resources, Bioresource Technology.”
“The department of Biochemistry offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. Both require the completion of a research program and the preparation of a thesis. The department of Biochemistry strives to train scientists with both a broad knowledge on the disciplines of biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology. It also strives to develop critical and creative scholars who can communicate effectively.”
“The department of Biological Sciences offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. It strives to develop scholars familiar with literature in their field, capable of identifying new problems and new directions of endeavour in their field, and competent with the methods of data collection and analysis essential to do research. Students will fulfil these objectives through several forums: a supervised research program, coursework, participation in seminar programs, and defending their dissertation.”
“Research facilities and lecture courses for graduate programs are offered by the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The department offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering, as well as the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy with a specialization in Biomedical Sciences. The degrees differ based on the student’s undergraduate background — the former is intended for those with a foundation in engineering or related fields, and the latter for those with a background in the biological sciences.”

“The Department of Economics offers a course-based Master of Arts program, a course-based Master of Arts program with a specialization in Economics and Finance as well as a thesis-based PhD program. Areas of study in Economics includes all these but are not limited to Applied Econometrics, Economic Development, Environmental and Resource Economics, Financial Economics, Industrial Organization, International Economics, Labor Economics, Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, and Public Economics. The department does not guarantee that each of these fields will be offered in any given year.”
