Undergraduate Programs
“In the biology program at the University of Basel, unlike biology classes at school, students are prepared for research. The focus is no longer just on general knowledge, but on acquiring a deep, up-to-date, and concentrated foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge about organisms and life processes. The goal is to be able to apply both existing knowledge and new as well as previously unexplored areas of knowledge to solve biological problems. The bachelors program offers three specialization: Animal and Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology, and Integrative Biology (a combination of the first two).”
“The Computational Sciences degree program teaches students the ability to apply and develop modern simulation methods in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics. Understanding the interplay between theory, experiment, and simulation procedures is a central learning objective. Computational sciences has more unique focuses than computer science. Computer science deals with the computer itself, its hardware and software components. For example, software for operating systems is developed. Computational sciences focuses on applying computers to scientific problems. In this context, software is also developed to solve mathematical equations from the natural sciences in order to describe physical, chemical, or biological phenomena.”
“The Computer Science program at the University of Basel is a scientific program offering an application-oriented and modern computer science education with a solid foundation in mathematics. It opens up opportunities for graduates to apply their knowledge in a wide range of careers in business and administration, but also provides the theoretical foundation for entry into research. Students learn to systematically analyze problems and independently develop solutions using information and communication technologies. Teamwork and presenting computer science solutions are central practices of the program.”
“The study of economics enables graduates to assume responsibility in the society for the future and to contribute to the success of facing the challenges of the 21st century. The Bachelor’s program combines courses from the fields of business administration (at least 25% of the program), economics (at least 25% of the program), and methods (at least 15% of the program). The remainder of the program is largely available for specialization in the aforementioned areas and/or taking courses from other university departments such as law, psychology, media studies, philosophy, physics, etc. (at least 7% up to a maximum of 27% of the program).”
“This Bachelor's program first lays the scientific and biomedical foundations for specialized training, before imparting knowledge and skills across the entire drug network, from the origin of the active ingredients to its consumption. This includes drug discovery, pharmaceutical analysis, drug absorption, transportation and distribution, formulation, manufacturing, and quality assurance of the dosage form, drug effects, metabolism and toxicity, as well as drug use and safety.”
“The Faculty of Psychology is committed to evidence-based, scientifical sound psychology in research and teaching with the overarching goal of improving human well-being. It understands humans as complex bio-psycho-social beings that develop, act, and help shape diverse living and working environments. The psychology program imparts the ability to assume diagnostic, advisory, and evaluative roles in the health and social services, education and training, administration, business, and industry. Students can confidently apply research methods and appropriately evaluate empirical data. In addition to specialized content, students acquire personal and social skills through internships and collective works that are important for their future careers.”

“This program is a rapidly emerging discipline that applies engineering tools and methods to medical diagnostics and treatment. The students pursuing this program can specialize in a broad range of sub-disciplines, including implants and regenerative technologies, image acquisition and therapies, computer assisted surgeries, or on diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. Such interdisciplinary education on medical devices for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, positions students in a privileged position develop a career in a thriving academic and industrial environment.”
“The Master in Business & Technology primarily prepares students to solve people-oriented problems in areas like marketing, human resources, strategy and organization, or management accounting & control in times, in which technological progress in general and digital transformation in particular have an enormous impact on firms and their functional areas.”
“The study of Computer Science at the University of Basel is a scientific program and offers an application-oriented, modern computer science education with a sound basic knowledge in mathematics. It offers its graduates the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a broad professional field in business and administration, but also provides the theoretical tools for entry into research. During their studies, students learn to analyze problems systematically and to develop solutions independently using information and communication technologies.”
“The Master’s program Data Science at the University of Basel offers a solid fundamental theoretical knowledge in mathematics and statistics combined with practical applications in managing and processing huge volumes of data sets. Students enrolling to the Master’s program will enjoy a modern curriculum combining the whole data science methods like mathematical foundations, machine learning as well as managing and processing big data with excellent teaching and close links to current research.”
“Studying at the Faculty of Business and Economics, where theory and practice are closely linked in teaching and research, specifically incorporates the University of Basel's comprehensive offerings into its curriculum. The degree programs offered by the faculty integrate business and economics issues and methods, opening up entry into a wide range of professional fields and enhancing long-term career prospects.”
“The focus of medical studies is based on human being, in his or her biological, psychological, and social context. Its aim is to maintain health (prevention), identify physical and mental illnesses as well as social problems (diagnosis), and treat them (therapy). Preparation for the profession requires fundamental medical knowledge of all health disorders (their causes, manifestations, and influences) in different phases of life. In addition to teaching the basics of natural science, anatomy, and physiology, the study of human medicine includes in-depth training in all diagnostic and therapeutic as well as medical and surgical disciplines. The study of human medicine is federally regulated.”
“This Master’s degree program offers patient-centered training and prepares students to assume pharmaceutical responsibility as a medical professional. The objectives of the Master's degree program in Pharmacy are based on the training objectives of pharmacists as formulated in the Federal Act on University-Based Medical Professions (Medical Professions Act, MedBG). The Master's degree program in Pharmacy is geared towards later careers in the healthcare sector, particularly in retail and hospital pharmacies.”
“This Master’s program examines and explains human experience and behavior. The human psyche is not directly observable and is closely intertwined with biological, social, and societal conditions. This makes it all the more fascinating to delve deeper into us humans as bio-psycho-social beings, to examine and attempt to understand our behavior, experiences, and development. The subject of psychology, which is taught in its entirety at the University of Basel, is just as multifaceted as we humans and our living and working environments.”
