Addictions and Mental Health

“The Addictions & Mental Health Program prepares students to support individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges through trauma-informed, evidence-based, and culturally responsive practices in the Canadian context. Commercial Cannabis Production

Entry Requirements for Undergraduate

Must have good knowledge in English to meet the language requirements. Duolingo, IELTSng, IELTSgh or TOEFL will be required if English is not your first or second language.
Must have credits C5 upwards in Mathematics and English.
Must have at least three extra credits in credible subjects like Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Business, Art subjects with one B3, making it five credits and one B3 altogether Mathematics and English inclusive.
Must have completed high school or study at least 12 units course program for minors and qualify with more than 5 credits, B3 inclusive, in the general entry examinations recognized globally. (WAEC, GCE, NECO, WASSCE)
Ages 16 to 65 can apply. (Ages 16 and 17 are considered minor and will require parents/guardian consent when and where necessary).
Must have a National Identity document or International passport.
Must have the needed financial supports ready and available as processing will not be complete if you fail to fulfill whatever financial agreement or conditions needed to secure a seat for yourself in the program you’re looking to opt in for. Else you’re exempted, under scholarship or financial grants/aids. Such cases requires you to provide documents as evidence to your claim.

Entry requirements for Postgraduate

Must have good knowledge in English to meet the language requirements. Duolingo, IELTSng, IELTSgh or TOEFL will be required if English is not your first or second language.
Recognized Bachelor’s degree in subject area with 120–180 credit points.
2.2 at undergraduate degree or 2.5 to 4.0 GPA.
Must be above 18yrs.
Must have a National Identity document or International passport.
Academic documents such as transcripts, degree certificates and marksheets.
Official transcripts must be submitted directly from the degree granting institution, examination authority or from the applicant providing the transcript and it remains in a sealed envelope sent from the institution. Transcripts not in English must be translated by a certified translator along with a note indicating they received documents in a sealed envelope. The original official transcript and the translation must be sent to the Admissions Office directly from the translator.
Additional departmental requirements, such as:
- CV, statement of intent and writing samples
- GRE, GMAT, Miller Analogies Test or other test scores
- Reference letters
World Educational Services (WES) credential evaluation reports directly from WES can also be accepted. Kindly verify from the admission office before submission.

Scholarships and Student Part-time Jobs

Niagara College offers a wide range of scholarships and student grants to international students, while loans are for domestic students only. These offers come with terms and conditions to qualify. In various cases, scholarships are mostly given to international students after the first year of studies based on your performance. As an international student, finding a part-time job while at a university in Canada is a great way to earn extra money, meet new people, and build professional skills. To do so, you must be on an international student visa and have begun your full-time studies, and studied for six (6) months in your university. Students are only allowed to work part-time jobs, which means you can’t own a company, work full-time, or be a professional sportsperson. Students get at least $(19 – 80) CAD per hour or even more based on recommendations. They usually get casual (no fixed hours) and part-time work, and sometimes these jobs can be found at the college, or in industries that employ part-time workers, such as hospitality and retail. All students, even those paid hourly, are subject to the same obligations and rights as other employees.

Please note, if you are a part-time student, you are not permitted to work.

International students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week while completing an undergraduate or postgraduate program, and up to 10 hours per week for diploma programs during term time. You may work over 40 hours per week during scheduled breaks or outside of term time.

Working while studying is a great way to gain experience, earn extra income, and learn more about professional life in Canada. However, your university course should always be your top priority. Taking on too much work can make it difficult to find study time, increase stress, or affect attendance. Consider speaking with your university’s employment team, international student officer, or academic advisor to help you maintain the right balance.
