Business Administration

“The Course of Public Administration at Yamanashi Gakuin University offers excellent educational opportunities for professionals to advance and deepen their specialization in the social sciences. All lectures are held in Japanese on weekday evenings, and some intensive courses are offered on weekends during the summer session. Please Note: Yamanashi Gakuin University requires undergraduate applicants to prepare for their Basic Entrance Examination. The problems on the Yamanashi Gakuin University entrance examination are not necessarily difficult. Those who studied well in high school will be able to tackle any question on the entrance exam with their existing knowledge and skills. In order to select the most ideal students, the University’s undergraduate entrance exam is backed by the three basic policies as explained below.

First, the content of the questions on the entrance examination is specifically designed to be at a level that can be managed by those who have received a high school education.
Second, students are expected to be well-prepared for the University’s liberal arts education upon enrollment. Accordingly, the University places a high value on students who have studied a wide range of topics spanning both the humanities and the sciences, and who possess global perspectives and communication skills in foreign languages. To meet these expectations, students in the humanities are required to have basic knowledge and competency in the sciences. In turn, students in the sciences are expected to have basic knowledge and competency in the humanities. Furthermore, all students, regardless of whether they are in the humanities or the sciences, are required to have fundamental proficiency in foreign language(s).
Third, the University emphasizes the importance of the ability to solve problems by associating facts that one already knows rather than simply cramming facts into one’s head.

The University expects all potential applicants to keep the above-mentioned points in mind and learn as much as they can during their primary and secondary school years at the deepest level possible.

As the majority of the courses in the traditional undergraduate programs are taught in Japanese, a high level of proficiency in Japanese is required upon enrollment.

Entry Requirements for Undergraduate

Must have good knowledge in English to meet the language requirements. Duolingo, IELTSng, IELTSgh or TOEFL will be required if English is not your first or second language.
Must have credits C5 upwards in Mathematics and English.
Must have at least three extra credits in credible subjects like Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Business, Art subjects with one B3, making it five credits and one B3 altogether Mathematics and English inclusive.
Must have completed high school or study at least 12 units course program for minors and qualify with more than 5 credits, B3 inclusive, in the general entry examinations recognized globally. (WAEC, GCE, NECO, WASSCE)
Ages 16 to 65 can apply. (Ages 16 and 17 are considered minor and will require parents/guardian consent when and where necessary).
Must have a National Identity document or International passport.
Must have the needed financial supports ready and available as processing will not be complete if you fail to fulfill whatever financial agreement or conditions needed to secure a seat for yourself in the program you’re looking to opt in for. Else you’re exempted, under scholarship or financial grants/aids. Such cases requires you to provide documents as evidence to your claim.

Entry requirements for Postgraduate

Must have good knowledge in English to meet the language requirements. Duolingo, IELTSng, IELTSgh or TOEFL will be required if English is not your first or second language.
Recognized Bachelor’s degree in subject area with 120–180 credit points.
2.2 at undergraduate degree or 2.5 to 4.0 GPA.
Must be above 18yrs.
Must have a National Identity document or International passport.
Academic documents such as transcripts, degree certificates and marksheets.
Official transcripts must be submitted directly from the degree granting institution, examination authority or from the applicant providing the transcript and it remains in a sealed envelope sent from the institution. Transcripts not in English must be translated by a certified translator along with a note indicating they received documents in a sealed envelope. The original official transcript and the translation must be sent to the Admissions Office directly from the translator.
Additional departmental requirements, such as:
- CV, statement of intent and writing samples
- GRE, GMAT, Miller Analogies Test or other test scores
- Reference letters

Tuition Fees & Living Expenses

During the admission process for programs offered at Yamanashi Gakuin University, international students must pay an application fee or entrance examination fee of 36,000 Yen, which is non-refundable and subject to change without notice. There is also an enrollment fee of 200,000 Yen, paid once you have been given admission and accepted your offer, and it is included in your tuition fee for a year.

Tuition fees can vary based on your choice of course and program. For certain programs, costs related to training (books, occasional travel for courses, miscellaneous expenses, and thesis) contribute to tuition costs. Students must also take out the insurance required by the Confederation, which is included in the tuition.

As an international student, making sure you enjoy your studies is the sole concern of the immigration government and the university. While the university provides the necessary support and a conducive environment for students coming from far and near, students are also expected to have the right resources and finances to meet such an educational standard, systematized to compete with first-class countries in our world.

International students looking to study in TGU, in the province of Tokyo, must have approximately 816,000 to 1,316,000 Yen upwards for tuition per year. An estimated value of 100,000 to 140,000 Yen for their living costs per month, housing and feeding fees inclusive. Approximately, a total of 1,496,000 to 2,296,000 Yen upwards is required to cover both your tuition and living expenses for your first year of studies (April to November). Travel costs are not included in this figure. Also, if you have a dependent, you must make plans and provisions, which is an added cost to your living expenses but will reduce your overall cost of living to half of your estimated living expenses if you were by yourself. Scholarships and Student Part-time Jobs

As part of the academic encouragement program at Yamanashi Gakuin University, this scholarship program aims to provide scholarships to privately financed international students who are particularly outstanding in Japanese language proficiency and academics, and who can serve as role models for other students. You can apply every year from the first to the fourth year. As an international student, finding a part-time job while studying at a university in Japan is a great way to earn extra money, meet new people, and build professional skills. To do so, you must be on an international student visa (e-residence permit) and have begun your full-time studies, and studied for 6 months in your university. Although the student “Status of Residence” alone does not qualify you automatically for part-time jobs or other jobs in Japan, except maybe school jobs. If you wish to work part-time while studying or researching in Japan, you must apply for Shikaku Gai Katsudou Kyoka , also known as Permission to Engage in Activities Other Than Those Permitted Under the Status of Residence. Students are only allowed to work part-time, which means you cannot own a company, work full-time, work in an adult entertainment business, or be a professional sportsperson. Students get at least (1,121 – 1,226) Yen per hour or even more based on the recommendations. They usually get casual (no fixed hours) and part-time work, and sometimes these jobs can be found at the university, or in industries that employ part-time workers, such as hospitality, tourist centers, and retailers. All students, even those paid hourly, are subject to the same obligations and rights as other employees.

Please note: If you’re a part-time student, you are not permitted to work.

Students are allowed to work up to 28 hours per week if you are completing an undergraduate or postgraduate program and 10 hours per week for diploma programs during term time and over 40 hours per week outside of term time. Regardless, you are not allowed to work more than 8 hours per day. Working is a great way to earn extra money, gain professional experience, and learn more about working life in Japan. However, your university course should always be your priority. Taking on too much work could make it harder to find study time, cause you extra stress, or even affect your attendance. Talking to your university employment team, international student officer, or academic tutor about working can help you work out the right balance.
